Installing MSD 6 Box - Best Location?

Bob, I am installing a MSD 6 ignition box in my ERA 427 SC. I would like to install the box inside the car under the dash over the transmission tunnel. This will provide path for the coil wires (drive side of carb) and distributor pickup wires (passenger side of carb) and power wires.

Is this a good place? Sufficient room? Where does ERA mount the MSD box? I do have the glove box option.

I have an old ERA (#004) and initially mine was mounted (by previous owner) in the engine compartment and yep, you guessed it, it got toasted! I just installed the second one in the passenger side footbox, toward the center on the fire wall. I don't have a glove box but it is mounted far enough to the drivers side that it should work.
Cheers, Pete C

Hi
Not sure how much footbox an ERA has, but in my car I mounted mine inside the car on the top inside surface of the passenger side footbox. It is mounted upside down, with easy access to the rev limiter chip port.

Less vibration, no real heat, dry......

With the dash in later, you don't see anything up that high.

Another endorsement for the passenger footbox area, upside down. No moisture, no heat and easy access for the chip.

It is high enough, it is NOT not in view of people looking into your car. It does not stick out like a sore thumb.

Been there, done that.

Bob, looks like a mis type on the first sentence. ",,,,usually mount the MSD unit inside the ENGINE compartment, either inside the GLOVE BOX area,,,"

My glove box is in the PASSENGER compartment. At best, the sentence is a little confusing. Hey, just trying to help, not being rude or anything!

By the way, my MSD is mounted up high in the NOSE of my car, away from engine heat etc. Rain water problems? Oh man, I didn't think of that!

I agree with Turk, that is where installed mine, I have a SPF.

More like brain fade than "mis-type". **)
