Warranty on Dunlops
Hello,
I discovered a slow leak in my driver side front tire. It seems to lose about 2.5 lbs/inch of pressure per day. The tires have just 200 miles on them.....its the Dunlops. What do you suggest that I do....I will take the wheel off this weekend to see where the hole might be, but I have a suspicion that it could be the valve itself. What should I do once I find the source of the problem...I imagine there is a warranty on these things? Thanks for your help. |
When you take the wheel off to check....over inflate the tire. Get a soapy water mixture and pour it slowly over the tire. Rotate the tire and check for air bubles. Do the same for the bead on the rim and valve. If the valve is leaking either tighten or replace it. If there is a slow leak in the tire have it patched.

MikieC's advice is good, or you can bring it to a tire place. We used to epoxy the inside of the rim - sometimes the casting was a bit porous. Trigo started coating the rim at the factory a few years ago and we haven't had any leaks since. I hope. :rolleyes: |

Tell me more about the epoxy...? I have #122 and I am willing to bet the rims are way over 5 years old...I notice on my wheels that I loose a little pressure over a few weeks...How did you epoxy the rims? matt |

I wasn't directly involved with the process, but I think the rims were coated bead-to-bead. The paint was applied with a spray gun or sometimes just brushed on. |
Has anyone had experience with the tire products that seal the tire from the inside? I believe these products work like a permanent fix-a-flat. Given my current problems with tires - and the agony we have to go through if we get a flat tire on the road - I am seriously considering trying these products out.

I have used "Fix a flate" or "Spare tire in a Can" on several of my regualr passenger car tires for years. It is great as sealing pesky small leaks and as a preventative measure. I have been able to seal leaks where the tire was almost flat after one night! Or even PULL out the nail (small hole) AFTER pumping in the Fix A Flat goop and running it a little.
With my Cobra, I hesitate. I often actually change my own tires (I'm old tire man) and the MESS inside the wheel is a real hassle when you have to "clean it up". I DO carry a can of "Fix a Flat" in the trunk (Cobra) as well as a "plug kit" for my "spare tire". There good products, but sure make the inside of your wheel ugly when you have to change tires! be careful some of the flat in a can products warn against use in high speed z rated tires.

Hmmm,,,,thats interesting! I'll have to look out for that in my "fast" cars. Wonder what it would do at high speed, anyone?
