vent at bottom of windshield
The painter did not do a stellar job on one of the hot air vents at the bottom of the windshield. I am considering taking it off and sending it back to him to have him re-paint it (there is a major drip on it and unfortunately the vent is right in front of the passenger so it is in plain sight). Is it possible to remove the screws which hold that vent down without removing the windshield??

620, I had to pull my bents (like a dummy, I put them on backwards!), and tried everything I could think of to do it without pulling the windshield, finally gave up, and spent less time pulling the windshield, reversing the vents and reinstalling than I had trying to avoid pulling the windshield.
My answer, I don't think it can be done, but pulling the windshield is a piece of cake. Have a buddy help, though! |
The vents on my Cobra (not an ERA) were re-installed backwards by the painter. I ended up taking a small phillip's head bit (the type that is normally inserted into the end of a drill motor when installing dry wall screws) and chucking the bit into a socket wrench; in effect making a right-angle phillip's screw driver. Worked like a champ.

It's tight in there! Even my cutie S-shaped screwdriver has a seriously hard time. Remove the screws holding the trim plates on the side and loosen the bolts securing the windshield side plates to the chassis. You can probably shift the windshield enough to get at the screws.
