351w oil pan
Any ERA gt40 types with a 351w what oil pan did you use? ERA recommends one for 302 not 351w. Doesn't appear aviad make one for the windsor with right clearance. Max depth 7.25 ''

First off, 302 and 351W oil pans are not interchangable. But, Canton, Milodon, and (I think) Moroso make baffled pans for 351W in 9qt, and 8 qt varieties.
A baffled road race oil pan, and preferably a windage tray along with it is a MUST HAVE on a Cobra. Doubly so on a GT40. Even if your driving only consists of not slowing down for Freeway/Interstate/Turnpike on ramps. These cars corner so violently that use of an OEM passenger car oil pan nearly guarantees uncovering the oil pickup, loss of oil pressure, and damaged bearings. An Accusump is added insurance, but not a replacement for the correct oil pan. |
You might want to contact Gordon Levy..He makes a pan for a 351. The pan is baffled and has a windage tray. Holds about 8 quarts.

I think the real concern is the depth of the pan. Anything more than the 7.25 inches will be protruding out the bottom of the car. This car rides with such low ground clearances the last thing i want is to have the pan be the low point of the car

Aviad has a 7.5 inch pan also Without the car in hand to try. !/4 inch could make a big difference. Thats why i was looking for someone who has been down this path. Trial and error could get real expensive

I wouldn't worry about the extra 1/4". In spite of how low they look, you'll still end up with 4+ inches of ground clearance, even running with race specs. Since the engine is tilted down at the back, the front edge will still be high enough not to "catch" on anything. |

Hey Lloyd,
If you can't find one, do what I did...just wack the bottom off a stock pan and roll your own. I cut the bottom off the Cleveland pan and made my own replacement bottom per ERA's depth and width requirements. Added baffling, a trap door, and a windage tray. I modified the stock pickup tube/screen assy to fit the shallower depth. Holds about 7 or 7 1/2 qts. Lots of work? Yea, but my labor is cheap when it's for me!! :) Dave |

Wow hats off to you i wouldn't attempt that. My welding skills level leaves alot to be desired. Actually Jerry fixed me up with an aviad oil pan part # that he used. I'm going that route. LLoyd |
