a few ERA questions for Bob P

Bob,
I have a few questions for you about various parts for an ERA 427:

1) 17" wheel widths 11.5 rear and 9.5 front are correct assuming the ERA rear suspension is used?

2) What is a Subaru stage II car? (ie what is the best model and year to get steering gear from?). Can you speak to any benefits of using the new ERA gear (other than it being new of couse)

3) is there much visual difference between the Triumph steering column and the ERA reproduction column?

Thanks so much

Joe,

The wheel widths are correct. Shown Here.

I think that the "Stage II" is a Subaru Brat. New units aren't available anymore but rebuilds may be. Our standard ERA gear is a bit slower (3.2 vs 2.7 turns, lock to lock) but the effort is very light.

We're also fiddling with a similar new rack that's geared like the old Subaru, but I won't know how much effort it requires for a couple of months.

The Triumph column has a tubular wand on both sides of the column, one for signals, the other for headlight dimming. The column housing is black plastic. The ERA column uses the original single VW wand that integrates both functions. It can be put on the left or right side.

Thanks Bob. Keep us posted on the possibly new gearing of the ERA rack.
