Brake Light Switch - OK I'm Stumped

Bob,

I can't seem to hook up the brake lights properly. Below is a picture of our brake light switch. To which spades should I attach which wire?http://www.clubcobra.com/photopost/d...ght_switch.jpg

If I attach the wires to the middle and farthest spade, the brake lights are always on when I turn on the ignition. If I hook up any other way, the brake lights do not come on either when I turn on the ignition or depress the brake pedal.

Also, I have not yet added brake fluid. Is it necessary to have fluid in the system for the brake light switch to work properly?

Thanks,

The center pin is violet , left is green , right is purple (as for your picture, Center on top ) One is the dash indicator , this may come on when ignition is on because you do need fluid to work the pressure switch .

Still confused!

John,

Thanks, but I only have two wires, one green and one pink. Still not sure which goes where.

Green comes from the fuse and pink goes to the brake lights by way of the turn signal relay.

Cobera,
That is a pressure switch so you need fluid, brakes bled. sounds like you put the wires on the common to normally closed lug (switch closed) =lights on. Try the top and left lug (common and normally open) with fluid and it should work. The switch does not have polarity so it does not matter which color goes where.

Curtis,

Thanks.

I'll give that a try.

CobERA,

Use the opposing terminals. You may have gotten wiring instructions for the previous harness design (the change was made around your car). The proper instructions are posted on the web. If you don't know the location (it's in the main manual toward the front), e-mail me.
