Insurance
First, thanks for the responses to a previous thread about building an ERA car myself - very encouraging. My next question is this - trying to all the details ironed out on this potential project and one thing that continues to pop up is insurance. I know there have been many posts on this and sorry to rehash. I have found some companies willing to cover an original, a professionally built, or an existing built car. Haven't had any luck with finding a company to cover a car that I plan to build myself. Any ideas - I live in North Carolina. Thanks.

State Farm has proven to be a viable option... If your driving record is clean they consider doing it for a very low price.
Not all agents will take the time to work with you so you have to call around... |

If you qualify for USAA insurance, they treat your Cobra like an ordinary car. You'll pay a premium for over 300 HP as the engine was originally configured from the factory. (My 351W was originally rated at 195 HP, so no high HP premium)
Was covered under homeowners until registered, then auto. Have been insured by USAA since '67. Auto, home, etc. Decent rates, and they're right there when the sh!t hits the fan. Perhaps the little green reptile can save you 15% but I don't think they'll take your Cobra, or be there when the sh!t hits the fan. |
