Banjo Bolt Seals

Hi Bob,

I'm getting slight brake fluid weepage around the banjo bolt connections to the front calipers. In your owners manual you mention that Earls makes some washers that might solve the problem. I assume you're referring to either Earl's Stat-O-Seals or their Dowty Seals. Which do you recommend and can you tell me whether I need the 3/8" ID or the 7/16" ID?

Chris

Chris,

7/16" Stat-o-seal, #178007 is the one we use. We've got 'em if you can't find them locally.

I have to replace a banjo fitting and noted that it came with two new crush washers. Am I supposed to put one on either side of the banjo, or is one a spare washer?

You need to put one on each side. If you don't - it will leak. I once tried a standard washer and it didn't work - to hard. Good luck!

Tommy,

ERA supplied the banjo bolts for my car. Included were the Stat-O-Seal washers that Bob Putnam refered to in his earlier post, and a copper washer. There were also 2 copper washers attached to the brake line hose.

I installed the Stat-O-Seal washer between the caliper and the hose, and a copper washer between the hose and the head of the banjo bolt. Unfortunately, I mounted the hose backwards. One side of the hose fitting is notched and I convinced myself that the notched side should go against the caliper. Wrong!
The result was brake fluid everywhere. Once I figured it out, and reversed the hose fitting, the leaks stopped.
