Coolant expansion tank recoemmendations?

I should start by mentioning my ERA has a 351W in it. Yes, I know I'm a sinner... Anyway, I have a Cobra Restorers original-style expansion tank that mounts to the thermostat inlet on the intake for 5 years now. The thing always starts leaking on me, I've had it repaired many times, and after reading many posts here, it sounds common. Can you recommend an alternate mfg of a fabbed aluminum or stainless one, or install tips to keep mine from leaking again? Also, any tips on a good looking puke tank for overflow? Thanks.

If your tank was scored from the junk yard it might just be worn out.

Get a new one from ERA or Finish Line...........

Cheesepocket, Welcome to the ERA sinners club. I gave up on trying to get a correct looking FE expansion tank to work and finally went with a remote Harrison aluminum tank. I mounted mine on the right side shock tower after making an aluminum adapter. It looks great all polished up and is actually nearly correct since Shelby used these on his 289 models. The Harrison unit comes in various outlet configurations so shop around. I connected the thermostat bypass hose to the Harrison top hose fitting and feed the water pump bypass inlet from the bottom tube of the Harrison tank. It works great!

The traditional solder that these are assembled with is very soft and will not tollerate vibration or corrosion. Disassemble it completely, bead blast it to remove all paint and then find a metal fab shop or someone that does metal sculpture and have it assembled using SILVER solder. Using the torch to get the temps right takes some practice. It is MUCH MUCH stronger.
Retain the look increase the performance.

Many of the older tanks have accumulated extensive stress cracks along the edges. Too much to fix, even with silver solder. If you've got the correct base tube and bracket for the small block, we should have the rest of the standard parts to assemble everthing else from new.
