Bob,
Looking on your website index with all your information, applicable to ERA cars and others, I am interested to know the correct fore and aft positions, measurements from body points, for the nose cone and trunk lid round Cobra/AC script badges, pictures tell a story but having real cars available tells a lot more! Any information gratefully appreciated, and I haven't found out about that deep lake here in NZ you referred to - yet! |

Does the placement diagram cover the 289 and 427's. Are they the same on both models???:confused: |

The street 289s had the same placement. It's my understanding that the FIA cars had no emblems at all. The weight, you know! ;) |
Back in the Jurassic era, when we restored Mustangs (even before we restored Shelby Mustangs), we'd always clip the mounting studs off the back of all emblems.
We'd carefully trim 3M emblem adhesive tape to fill the depressions in the back and have a uniformly flat surface. Then we'd stick the emblems to the car, lining them up by eye. That way, we avoided drilling holes through our fresh paint. We also avoided problems with the posts being in the wrong place. Once we started that, the lack of headaches was refreshing. We had no problems with emblems staying in place. The same cannot be said for our experiences with mounting posts. |

I used Bob's diagram to place emblems on my car (thanks Bob), and I have a question about the side emblems.
According to Bob's diagram, they are to be placed level with the top of the louver. On my car, and I think this is correct, the louvers angle downward a few degrees from back to front. I've seen many pictures where folks have subsequently placed their side emblems also slightly angled downward from back to front. While I was aligning mine, I thought this did not look right, and decided to use a level to place mine. I think I recall someone saying once that people often put their side emblems on wrong. Which way is right? |
Our louver is pretty horizontal. With yours, I would probably compromise a bit. Because the body has all those nice curves, I doubt whether a little tilt would be noticable. :)
