Engine Placement
Bob-
I have a question for you. I was looking at my motor and it appears that it is positioned slightly off center- perhaps an inch or two towards the passenger's side. Is this an optical illusion or is it actually closer to the passenger side? If so, what's the reason for it? Just curious. Mike |
Mike,
It's true, my car is the same, off set to right, you can really see it in the interior foot boxes, my passengers will have to have small feet. |
You know the funny thing is, I noticed the foot boxes, but didn't think much of it. It wasn't until I looked through the hood scoop at the turkey pan and air filter that it I noticed the offset.
|
I believe the offset is to account for driver weight, such that the net result is a balanced weight distribution. Which does beg the question, what is the average weight of a cobra afficianado?
|
I believe you're probably right with the weight issue, but reading some of the posts around here, you'd have to put an extra big block in the passenger seat to fully offset the weight of a lot of the drivers around here:LOL:
|
LOL...........Contemporary's are also offset an inch or two to starboard ..
KK |
That's it exactly. Purpose built toy for the driver only. Original frames had 1/2" offset of driveline to chassis. Also explains the roll bar for that side only.
|
moved just a tad...
Chap,
Engineered that way by good ol' ERA! Steering shaft, steering column / assembly, steering wheel, pedals, driver, rollbar... on one side and not on the other. Offsetting the extra weight. ...Motor moved just a tad to offset and balance the difference. |
