Fuel Pump Problem??

Bob,

ERA #463 - do you have any ideas as to what I might look for to solve this problem?

My fuel pump continues to run when I turn the ignition key off - the only way to stop it is to turn the bypass switch on the dash off - I guess that something in the bypass switch circuit is continuing to feed voltage to the pump????

I would also be interested in knowing if you have wiring diagrams available for your cars - I would like to have some if possible?

Please respond with any ideas to the Texas Club Cobra forum.

Thanks,

Dee Walters

Disconnect your fan and see if your fuel pump still runs after you shut it off. Or just flip off your fan toggle switch and start your car and then turn off your key to kill the engine and see if your fuel pump still runs.

If it doesn't my guess is that your fan is generating the amps to your fuel pump to keep it running.

Cammer,

If Clois's experiment indicates feedback from the fan, I would change the fan relay wiring so that the relay coil gets its power from the ignition switch rather than being live all the time. It's an easy conversion - just one new wire from the fusebox to the relay.

Clois,

As electrical wiring is not exactly my cup of tea - could you be a little more specific as to what to do by the numbers for those of us that are a little slow on the pickup - if your suppositions are correct could you suggest a by the numbers solution to the problem??

Thanks,

Dee Walters/Cammer
