ERA & UHaul trailer?
Bob (or anyone else for that matter),
I am taking the car tomorrow for the safety inspection at DMV and I rented one of UHaul's autotransporters (the kind where you drive it up on the trailer and all four wheels of the car are on the trailer- not the one where only the front wheels are on a dolly and the rear wheels are on the road). Do you know if the ERA nose will clear that trailer? Should I go to Home Depot and get some 2 x 6s to use as ramps? Or should I just back the car on the trailer? Thanks for your help. Mike |

Which station are you bringing it to??? if you had asked, I would have given you the enclosed trailer for the day.

Bill-
I'm going to Morristown bright and early. And I predicted a month ago that it would be raining tomorrow and guess what? That is a nice offer (and I may take you up on it in the future :D ), but I also needed to rent a truck to tow the trailer with. I couldn't expect (and wouldn't want to borrow) someone's trailer and truck. I've never had an accident in my life (knock on wood), but if it were going to happen it would be when I was towing my cobra using someone else's trailer and truck. I'll give you guys the update tomorrow afternoon. |
HHHHHmmmmmmmmm, I could always "sell you" the truck and trailer :D :D :D ....

chaplin...dont have an era but have had my spf on a u=haul trailer on a couple of occasions. i raised the front of the trailer using the trailer 'jack' assembly at the hitch area to reduce the angle of the drive on ( while hitched to the tow vehicle) . i had to remove the license plate on the trailer for clearance. i have 3-1/2" clearance underneath the bellhousing which cleared the trailer with no trouble and have just about 5" clearance under the front body oil cooler scoop area which also did not 'touch'. . just have someone watch as you pull on and if it looks like you will touch, then back it on. trailer worked fine for me and hopefully for you too. good luck with the u-haul and the dmv. bill

I have had to transport my car to a couple of places and have found that the slide back tow trucks work pretty well. No trailer to mess with or truck to arrange for. The drivers were always very carefull and actually interested in the car, so they took good care loading and unloading it, and it is up out of harms way too. The oil cooler scoop clears too.
Just a thought. Rick |
Thanks guys for the responses.
For future reference- I loaded the car on the trailer today and you do need about an extra inch or so of clearance to clear the sidepipes, every other part of the car cleared without a problem. I laid some 2 x8s right on top of the ramps on the trailer and it went right up without a problem. |
I transported my ERA from Texas to Oklahoma on one of those U-Haul car trailers with no problems loading and unloading.
Best $40 bucks I ever spent. |
