Bob,
I've posted a question on "All Cobra Talk" [10-07-03] on the above subject. If not too much trouble, would you take a look and shed some light for me as I've not been able to find a satisfactory solution. If you can't, I may have JOE hound you to death! Thanks from your L I R&D department.

The comments on the other section seem appropriate. With Mobil 1, very little heat will be generated to raise the oil temperature. I like the idea of the clear plexi cover for the cooler. :)

I went out the other morning and it was about 42 degrees. For a temporary "fix" I just quickly cut out a piece of card board and put in front of the oil cooler. After driving for 5 or 10 minutes, the oil temp did come up to about 90C (194 F). Thinking about it, the plexiglass idea is a good one. Obviously would block more wind than cardboard and would certainly look much better.

Chap, etal:

Another quick fix is to put a piece of aluminum in back of the cooler. The "look" is not changed and it effectively prevents air from going through the cooler. This is how I've managed this problem on my ERA427s & FIA.

My oil temp was staying too low for me (around 160 F) so I also used the aluminium behind the oil cooler to block the air and increase my oil temp. I took the Cobra out for some test and tune session last night (I am running 20 w 50 oil and the outside temp at 7:00 was about 75 degrees) and my oil temp only got up to 210 degrees. Barely enough to eveaporate moisture in the oil. I am thinking of a manual bypass or a solinoid controlled bypass that I can control from inside my cabin (like the accusump switch). This is quite a change for me since my old engine was a "poorly built 428" ran so hot all the time.

To Bob, Jim, Chap and Clois; Thanks so much for your input and experiences. The boys responding on "All Cobra Talk" also were very kind and helpful. I've been blocking my cooler with aluminum plates front AND back to which I adhered ceramic batting [used on footboxes] for 10 or 11 years of cool seasons. Never got any significant help from this which led me to seek Mocal item last year. I guess when it comes to temps, I just can't get it up anymore. Sad Chas.
