U-Joint Grease - What Nozzle or Adaptor??
Good Question for you Old Timer ERA Guys....
While crawling around under #375, while the Cobra was on Jack Stands, I did notice grease nipples on each end of my Jaguar drive shaft Universal Joints. I whipped out the trusty grease gun but the nozzle at the tip of my grease gun just would not fit onto the fitting as there was not enough clearance. So what is the trick to get these fittings greased? Do you use some sort of needle adaptor or what? Thanks in Advance. |
I just greased all the fittings on my car last week. I used one of the flexible hose attachments on the grease gun and had no problem at all.
|
REDSC400 I used the same thing as Chaplin and got all the fittings. You have the car on jack stands, where are the stands, on the chassic or on the drive line and suspension parts? Rick Lake CHAPLIN Mike get back to work tooo!!! ;)

Hey Rick-
That was meant for Rick Dorman, but I guess it applies to you too. |
How about you both get back to work:LOL: ;)
Flex hose has always worked for me on the grease fittings. Rick |
Yup, the flexi hose did the trick. Yes, have it on jack stands on the frame. Just moving the wheels allowed me to align the nipples for easy access.
Thanks BTW: Also, on the rear drive hub carrier which is the stationary part that is connected to the lower A arm. There appears to be a "plug" on the top of this. Is this an access port for grease packing the rear bearings? |
I am assuming a jag rear here.......
Take the plug out and fill her up with grease. Rick |
Rick:
How do you take that plug out? Mine is a smooth rounded plug with a tiny hole in the middle of it. There appear to be threads near the edge? Footnote: Some time later, I referred to a Jaguar website and found that the plug is pressed in and it can by pryed out with a flat bladed screwdriver. Did that and filled the reservoir with grease. Nice. |
REDSC400 I am not sure what plug you are talking about? I think there is a vent hole in the housing to keep the grease from pushing out of the housing. I will go home and look at it tonight and let you know. Chaplin Mike I am working on MY BREAK. ;)  Roderman Rick, Mikes just looking for some attention.:o I am going back to work. BYE-BYE

Thats the plug, just pry it out and fill 'er up. Oh and don't forget to put the plug back in!
