ERA #632 - 427 S/C On Ebay
Ok, hen's teeth are becoming a wee bit more findable. Another ERA on Ebay. This one essentially showroom / factory fresh. It appears to be out in the middle of the country.
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...ADME:B:SS:US:1 I have nothing to do with this car, just posting this here for those who may be interested. |
Absolutely beautiful car.
But I hope it also runs on something less than 108 octane fuel%/ |
Chaplin,
That is the first thing I thought too. But, it is a beautiful car. Morgan |
Why on earth would someone build a street car that requires 108 octane? I don't get it.
|
Stunningly beautiful car, but I've always been partial to silver with no stripes....
I can't really tell the difference between the ERA and Unique bodies, but I haven't had a chance to see the two side-by-side. To my eye, the ERA in question looks almost exactly like my car. Any opinions on the differences? |

The one difference I saw, when looking at an ERA and Unique which were near each other at the 2003 Lime Rock vintage ralley was the upper door treatment. The way the ERA's doors melded into the upper front above dash area were not similar to the way the Unique's doors fit. It seemed like there was more of a linear angle to the Unique upper door fit. Small difference. They both looked very nice to me as I recall. Some of the ERA details on some ERAs are just super but those are a function of dollars spent to recreate those details. Not all ERA owners go to such lenghts in their builds. ie: aluminum engine compartment, aluminum trunk finish, aluminized engine hoods, etc. I too agree that the silve does show the Cobra's lines well. The lack of stripes makes it look classic for lack of a better word. Silver paint must cost more to shoot I suspect? I think CT. Custom charges more for silver paint on the ERAs last I heard. |
Clay-
The other difference you will notice if you see an ERA and Unique side by side is the rear deck and fenders. On a Unique, the rear deck seems lower and seems to fall off more than it does on an ERA. Also looking at it from the rear, the rear fenders on an ERA seem a little bit fuller or rounder than a Unique. These were the biggest differences that I noticed when looking at them. |
Thanks Art and Rick,
I think you're right about the "droopier butt" on the Unique, but would really like a chance to analyze the rear fender differences. The ERA for sale didn't have a good rear shot. At any rate, I'm a huge ERA fan, and if I hadn't found my Unique-built turn-key car first, previously owned, I would buy an ERA in a heartbeat. Fortunately, mine has been just flawless, and I've now become a die-hard Unique fan too. That ERA in the ad is one of the most beautiful I've ever seen, at least from the pictures. I hope the 108 octane set-up is just a "dealer marketing mistake." |
Why would someone build a car then only put 50 miles on it and sell it possibly for a loss?%/
|
Mike,
Some people have virtually limitless funds, think they want something, then find out it's not their cup of tea. I've seen it so many times in cars, boats, and airplanes. At any rate, this appears to be the type of car that a serious enthusiast should run to steal, and also why so many buy the really good ones, previously owned, after the first owner paid way to much to have it built. |
For me, the easiest way to tell an ERA from a Unique is by looking at the roll bar (on 427 cars). The ERA bar is visible in front of the bulkhead behind the seats, while the Unique's is not. Also, the ERA bar's "support bar" is less vertical than the Unique's.
For FIA cars, look where the doors meet the rear fender; on the ERA there is virtually no space between the door and the fender flare, while on the Unique there is a noticeable space there. |
