ERA Side Curtain Instal?
Has anyone installed their own side curtains? How difficult is the fitting? Any tips? Thanks! :)

fitting my ERA side curtains
Well.......as an fyi...I just spent the night trying to fit them as per the manual. My advice? Have the factory do it.
Several hours later, and I am still nowhere with it.......:CRY: :CRY: I don't need no stinkin' side curtains!!:CRY: |

I have found in doing these cars that (though I'm willing to try and do it all) there are some things better left to those with years of experience and proven ability. If you want these things fitted properly to your car, call Peter and arrange to take the car up there for Jack to fit the top and side curtains. Jim |

I know what you mean about the adrenaline rush that occurs when you go up to ERA and see all the neat stuff on the shelves, et., etc., that has you diving in financially far deeper than you ever intended. It's about the closest thing that we males can relate to a female's clothing boutique buying frenzy. Did I ever tell you about the time that my wife and I were casually walking down a street in Carmel, California and all of a sudden she yelled; "Escada! On sale!" ...and I found myself standing alone on the street. I am willing to try anything, but I have also found that certain things are better left to the experts; particularly those things that are out in "plain view." (Level of competence, etc.) Save up a few bucks and have Jack do it. Jim |
I'm going to take the advice and have ERA put the side curtains on. But, I still wonder about those posts saying even with, the car's not good in the rain (Florida has a monsoon season).
I've had MG's and Jeeps with soft tops (and Corvette's but that was pre-marriage). None of them leaked. Can't believe there's not a leak proof Cobra top. Is it true? |
I installed rubber strip to the bottom of my side curtains ,
I have driven in heavy rain with good results ! I too have had Jack install my top , he had to make the pin holes larger . Job came out very good , I use it often ! ERA said you could have a local guy install the top , be sure they see the " install the top " section of ERAs web sight |

I have yet to hear of anyone who has a water tight Cobra convertible top and side curtain installation. They appear to all weep a wee bit, especially underway. |
neigher have I , but I did get better results than most of what I read on this sight .
As I stated , the use of a rubber stip under the window seemed logical , maybe that helped . |
Even with a professional fitted top you are not likely to have a watertight fit. My top fits pretty good but by no means everydaydriver good unless you live in one of these sunshine states where you probably wouldn't need a top anyhow:o
The side curtains on mine did not fit well. I did as the manual suggested & bored the holes the sleeves sit in for the side curtains. Everything is good now! |
