end play on clutch lever.

GT40 ERA bellhouse What is the acceptable amount of play at the end of the clutch lever. I made all my measurements before attaching the zf to the ERA bell house. Based on my measurement it required no shims on the throw out bearing. I am cuurent getting 3/4" free movement at the end fo the lever. Do I need to remove the ZF and go through the measure process again. I know there must be some free play. As the clutch wears and the play will decrease. LLoyd |
It's unusual not to use any shims behind the throwout bearing but before you do anything rash...
Adjust the play by screwing the threaded rod out of the rod end at the clutch throwout lever. Remember - you are pushing the piston nearly all the way into the clutch slave. If the rod is still too short (you should have at least 3/8" of thread in the rod end), we'll send you a longer one. |

I'm just at the stage where the engine and trans are one sitting in a cradle. Very easy to pull the trans off. Quite frankly i'd rather do it now then after it goes in the car. What is the most common used shim the smaller of the two? I think i'm going to pull the trans off and verify the measurements as outlined in the manual. What kind of end play is with in tolerances?
