Brake squeal is caused by vibrations producing sound much like a tuning fork after it has been struck. You need to find an effective way to dampen the vibration, thus stopping the "tuning fork" effect. The silicone helps absorb the vibrations. Maybe you should try putting the silcone on the caliper in long pencil-sized strips where it won't show and across the top of edge of the pad where the cotter pin goes through. Doing that SHOULD dampen the vibrations and stop the squeal. Good Luck, Rob |

I have been waiting since your post of 5-31 to address my brake noise problem with the other suggested solutions on this thread and some other pads donated by a friend.
I've limited the use of the car because of the problem, but this much time suggests I should probably proceed towards a fix. I just hate to go through the work without word from you on any R & D you've done. Especially if you found a cure. Anything you care to report, either way, beforehand? Thanks, |
I'm sorry things have been going slowly. My "mule" guy has been very busy and not able to put significant miles on the new pieces. I don't want to make recommendations without good data...

Since you have developed pieces and are testing them, I prefer to wait a little longer.

Latest Update
There's good and bad news. The pads we tested eventually started making noise. :CRY: However, we will soon start testing a new Wilwood pad (Type BP - it hasn't been publicly released yet) which promises to be a better choice for dual use than Wilwood's street pads. I've also got some Hawk pads coming. Wish us luck. :rolleyes: |
Started noticing the sq....llll! also but figured I'd just stop using the brakes. Looking forward to seeing another solution.

A couple of solutions that worked for me
I thought sure I posted my results earlier but evidently they are gone now.
I solved this problem twice, I have the sierra callipers. I switched to Hawk pads part number HB101.F.800 and the squeal went away. Then when I was preparing for an open track event in my car I put on the original hard pads. After working them hard on the track for a day they didn't sqeal anymore either!
