Clutch dragging appears to be solved!

Thanks Bob for the help with the aluminum block under the slave mount. I think the problem I was having with my clutch dragging is solved, it certainly feels better than it ever has. I can shift into reverse without grinding and when in first with the clutch disengaged it no longer pulls forward when revved. Throw on the slave is now a little over 7/8" rather than the 5/8" it was before.

I wish I could tell you exactly what fixed the problem but I was not very scientific about it. I changed 3 things at once! First of all, with Bob's help, I corrected the slave geometry by adding an aluminum block (installed with red locktite), I had to rotate it slightly which required griding a little bit on the tab. I also replaced the 3/4" BMW master cylinder with a 7/8" Tilton with the idea I would get more throw. And just for good measure I replaced the slave.

I'd say correcting the geometry was definitely helpful. Changing out the master certainly didn't hurt and accomplished my goal of trying for more throw. I doubt replacing the slave was needed at all.

Below are pictures of the slave install as it is now. I think it lines up pretty good. More info is on my website at the bottom of this page:

Thanks again Bob for your help with this issue. Not sure what happened to the old thread, I guess it got lost on black friday when the server crashed.

Thanks for the up-date on this 'lost' thread. I was following it before with keen interest.

I'm using the original ERA parts but have found the clutch adjustment is critical to get enough travel AND a little bit of free play as well. It's tricky to get it right.

You might want to try the Tilton then

You might want to try the Tilton then. It's not exactly a bolt on (other than the mount) but wasn't too bad to convert.

I'm also following this thread for a different slave cylinder and mount.
