what are some era copies?
What are some era copy cars, specifically from the 90's?
I have a car that is not an era but appears just like a new era, although this car was made in the mid 90's. About the only difference is that the body was red gel coat, and era never made a red gelcoat body. Otherewise virtually all the body structures are the same. The chassis is virtually identical to what is on the era web site. Any ideas on who could be the maker? |
There's no copyright on the the shape, dimensions and materials used on Cobra frame construction and the Cobra body likeness is considered 'public domain'. As far as an 'ERA copy', maybe someone else can comment.

- Is there a seperate and distinct rear subframe assembly in which your differential mounts inside? - Also, what size are the box frame rails on this car? Post some pictures if you can. I find it interesting that someone would copy an ERA as identically as you describe. |

I dont have a host for pictures...I talked with Bob? at era about it, and he said many people over the years have copied so to speak the basic era design, becaus ethe red gelcoat body is not an era.
One guy has been over that seems really well versed is kit differences, and did alittle research and he thought it was an era also... I ll take some measurements on the above questions. Just curiuos really of who made it. It came from a shop in vegas and I posted on the club forum, and no real luck yet. |
You can add pictures to your gallery here on club cobra by clicking on the little camera icon below your user name. Take some shots of the interior dash area, trunk, engine compartment and firewall/footbox area. If you can also get a shot of the front and rear suspension and frame mounting point that too would go a long way to figuring out who's kit or clone of a kit it could possibly be.

How do you know its not a former ERA chassis; i.e. previously wrecked or revived salvage, with a different body on it? Being a former dealer/dismantler, I've seen all sorts of insurance revived stuff that people put back on the street even though they had junk certificates. Its not easy, and it can be done. I did it through DMV with a 65 Mustang once that was junked out. You can check the back of the frame to see if its stamped if it was an ERA in a former life. |
If it was indeed an ERA frame, the seriel number would be stamped in several locations. I am not aware of any other replica company that uses a sub-frame for the Jag rear (or in the case of the early ERAs utilized the XKE sheet metal subframe housing).
