Roll bar mounted belt points
Guys,
I would like to move the shoulder belt attachment points higher up...at least as high as my shoulders. This bar is from Finish Line...on my FIA car the belts would need to be offset to the right to fit evenly over my shoulders. (Some of the cars have mounted the seat offset to the right, at an angle, to maximize leg room...mine is as far as practible to the left to be more directly behind the pedals/wheel.) Does anyone make a bolt on bar that allows the belt attach points to be MOVED to the right? Everything I have seen has the belt attach pts inside the "hoop"...I need it to be in the "center" for the right belt, about and "inch or two" outside of the hoop on the left belt The photo did not appear in the preview...maybe it will show after I submit the post, otherwise, go to: http://www.finishlineaccessories.com...ge.php?pID=219 Thanks, Pete |

Yes. I've seen the bracket on the SPF and I'm pretty sure that it fits our roll bar. You might ask Finishline whether you can assemble theirs for the driver's side offset.
If you're desperate, I've got all the drawings for it, but as a one-off, it could get expensive. %/ |

Thanks for the response. I used masking tape to approximate the shoulder harness locations. The ERA 289 belt mounting bolts are about 8 1/4 inch apart, so I marked the tape with a blue felt pen to give some perspective. The outer mount is about OK with the bolt on the outer side of the roll bar bracket, but the inner belt mount needs to be about 5 inches over to keep the spacing 8 1/4 and the belts parallel. A movable mount for the inner belt seems to be the ticket, or weld one on. Assuming the pic loads, ideas? Pete |

Haven't heard from you for awhile, hope all is well. I may have seen your setup before, but that was several years ago and I plum forgot...wasn'tthinking about shoulder harness mounts at the time I suppose Rather than reinvent the wheel, that looks like what I want...now to either modify something or build it form scratch. Bob, do you have any ideas on this as to your existing plans? If the premade Finish Line bar can be used with the harness mount on the outside bolt, and the inner belt fabric looped over the spreader bar, that should do it. Ideas or experience anyone? Pete |

The more I look at your setup, it should work. If the seat on your 427" SPF is about in the same relative position to the seat as in the ERA 289", then all I would need is the inner shoulder harness belt setup to loop over the roll-bar cross-member. The outer mount can hang on the outside of the bracket, maybe even get spaced another 1/2 inch or so with out wild bending moments...? I have been thinking about getting wider shoulder harness belts anyway, so this modification may get me off the mark. Pete |
