I have 235/60's. My car has the fiberglass wheel wells. I think the newer cars have alum. that may be able to be bent a little to give clearance.
I'm not sure if the original starter of this thread was talking about the tire hitting the actual fender or the well. I didnt meen to hijack his thread. |
Do you know the alignment specs on the car?
Cobred Do you have or know the alignment specs on the car? The caster would be the first to check. This moved the wheel from front to back and pivots point. My car has a power rackin it so my numbers are high that ones without. I run 1/2 degree of camber and between 3 1/4 LS and 3 1/2 RS of caster. Toe is 1/16 in. With a manual rack these numbers would be hard on the driver on the street. This was the street alignment, not my autocross and roadracing. I am still working on this. Rick L. Ps if the rubbing is on hard turns you can add stops to the lower arms to limit the turns. A couple small pieces of angle steel in rear to stop the tires from rubbing the body. It will not decrease the turning radius that much.

It's hard to tell from the picture, but the offset of the upper A-arm should be toward the front of the car. In other words the shorter "leg" of the A-arm should be in the front (to the left) in your picture.
Jim PS: As to all who have viewed Bob's copyrighted drawings, etc. there will be a knock on your door... |
Bob, sorry to hear about your loss. Thanks for your measurements. Your left side is 2" mine right now is 1.25". Spoke to Doug today said that I needed to cut the inner lip to a certain measurment. I checked after work and this would require me to cut just a quarter of an inch. It still would hit. I don't know, something is horribly off. I hope it's not the body mounting I can't imagine the remedy if it is. Can you undo the body and re-bond??
Going to call ERA tommorrow to see what they suggest. Jim, yes the shorter side of the upper arm is on the left when you are directly looking at it. |
Frank .... Thanks .
A thought just struck me ... are your rear tires centered in their wheel wells ? That might tell you something ... i.e. , if they are , then it might be that some trimming is "all" that is required to the left front lip . I don`t know what is involved if you have to undo and rebond the body , but ERA could probably tell you . Good luck ! Bob |
I have car #713.there is a little rubbing on a hard left turn, just enough to rub the under coating a little.sounds about like cobreds.good luck.

Front wheel offset ??
If the front wheels and tires are more outboard than within spec would this contribute to the tires rubbing on the wheel wells during a tight turn?
