? for SSSammy

On the tremac trans there seems to be a black rubber seal/spacer?in the cavity that the drive shaft goes into. Does that come out? It seems like it has to but i don't want to pull to hard.

TIA.

If you can see the splines on the end of your transmission shaft then no. There is a rubber gromet that seals your driveshaft input shaft on the end of your transmission! Your driveshaft should fit over the exposed splines of the output shaft and inside the rubber gromet.

I have seen in some cases a hard plastic plug installed on the end of the transmission output shaft of the transmission that keeps the transmission fluid from leaking out during the install.

Sammy, I hope I didn't steal your thunder!

Clois:

Thanks for the reply. I see there is a hardened plastic gromet on the end for sure but inside the shaft is a rubber "plug" as you call it which prevents me from putting in the drive shaft. Thats what I am talking about. I tried to lightly pull it out but I did not want to rip it out in case I should not be. I'll call Doug for confirmation.

Yank it out!

Street, you are talking about the shipping plug. Doug once told me that you could shove the tail shaft in behind this thing and just push it on into the housing. or you can pull it out. I choose to pull this out and save it for when you need to pull the tranny without draining it .. as I have done no fewer than 6 times  Anyway, grab it with a strong pair of pliers and wiggle it out, put it in a baggie with the speedo hole plug.

Clois, steal away! But you are talking about the dust seal, which surrounds this plug and correct, you do not want to pull that off.

Sam

P.S. If you are using an electric speedo, then you will need to get the correct metal and o-ring plug from Tremec for the speedo hole. The rubber shipping plug is not meant for road use.
