Diff Leak-qukr to pull or fix in the car
Guys,
One of the differential output shafts is leaking on my ERA (a lot). Is it quicker to pull the diff assembly and fix it on the bench, or take off enough pieces to fix it in the car? It looks like it would be pretty tough to get the caliper off in the car. Also, it looks like some Jag rears use a seal and Orings and some just use just the seal. Is that correct? Any other tricks to make this easier would be appreciated. I did download the documentation from ERA and it looks pretty easy. I want to have the correct parts on hand when I start. Thanks. John |
Best way is out of car and have a jaguar-jaguar guy help you.
-- there are all sorts of tips and tricks to a "less-Leaky" kitty diff. some seals are leather in various Jag Diffs. Synthetic oils can be problematic in Jag apps as well due to the natural cork and leather seals in places. --Steve (used to have an 76' XJS) |
I would pull it. Not sure on an ERA, but easier on an original car for sure. You may need to remove the console to access the drive shaft bolts.

yup the console has to come out. -- it helps if you have a lift.
