Body Finishing

Hi All,

I am considering an FFR. I have called several body shops in Albuquerque for finish work and paint. My quotes were $8000-$12000. This makes the project too expensive.

My question is how much of the prep work can be done at home aside from primer and paint? What tools and supplies do you need and what do they tend to cost?

Does anyone know any shops in New Mexico that may be cheaper?

Thanks
Jack

Check out ffcobra.com. Lots of FFR builders there and a couple of excellent body and paint shops that can do the job for much less than that. Also, lots of great pointers and help on doing the prep and body work yourself. You can do everything yourself, including the body prep work and paint if you're up to it.

Hey Jack,

Ken Pike here in Yuba City, California paints these cars day in and day out. Folks from all over the US send him their FFR bodies for body work and paint. He is very reasonable and does quality work. I'm sure he would be much less than your local quote even with the extra shipping.

I think FFR can just send the body directly to Ken, when your ready, and the rest of the kit to you. Ken has developed his own hinges and hood hoops which improve on the stock design.

Give him a call as you may have more options than you think. Your local quote is typical of a shop that may be quoting one of these for the first time.

Jack,
As John said, Ken does great work. But if you're interested in another name, consider Jeff Miller in Temecula. He painted my roadster and is very highly regarded too (and a little less expensive). He has painted hundreds of FFR's and has a back log of about 12 cars right now.

Here is his link:

Good luck,

Does Gordon Levy paint? I think he is in Arizona.
