FFR Question
What is the difference between FFR MKI, MKII, and MKIII ?
How can you tell the difference? Thanks |
As they FFR car has evolved the major changes were denoted with the MKI, MKII and MKIII versions. The lastest changes were to help accomodate the 4.6 Mod motors (a dimensionally large motor) and more rear tire clearance among others.

This may be more info than you want but here goes. The MkII added a backbone to the trans tunnel that further stiffened an already stiff frame. The driver side pedal box was dropped 2". The body mold process was revised to improve body quality. This is of no importance if you're buying a finiished car, but to a builder it was important. The MkII also got new door hinges and a really stout hood hinge.
The MKIII got a new removable transmission mount that makes clutch and tranny changes way easier on a completed car. The rear 2 X 3 upper rear cross member was narrowed to make room for bigger tires. The foot boxes were resized to make room for the Mod motors. The rear wheel wells were enlarged for wider tires. Most of this stuff makes little or no difference on a completed car except maybe for the dropped foot boxes. Also, the changes were phased in and you'll likely find a MK1 with a dropped driver's footbox, or a MKII door hinges, etc, depending on the production date. HTH Frank |
What about the "perky butt"? did that go away?

No, the famous "perky butt" remains. However, there are several people on the FFR forum who have a modification they call the "dropped butt", where the butt end is dropped 2-3" to give it a more original style profile.
There is also a guy who reconfigured the rear to take out the peak in the trunk to kind of eliminate some of the "perky butt syndrome". There is also a 289 FIA body available that will fit the FF5 chassis from Mr. Bruce. |
I should say, "infamous" ;)
What is the history of that? Why was it done? Yes, I have seen some threads that speak to the "butt lowering". Did they make a mold off of a wrecked car? (if I have my story correct, something similar happened at Unique which caused the headlights to point down a bit). Mike PS: This has been fixed in the newer molds |

that's funny. FFRs were designed like that from the beginning 6000 kits later they still have the perky butt and at they rate they are selling who cares!
