66 427 side oiler block and crank
found a lead on a 66 427 side oiler block and crank. I'm not sure what to offer the seller. any comments on what would be a fair price for them. Assuming they are in good condition.

Do not offer, ask what they want for it.
Look it over in detail if they have a dollar amount. If it is windowed, you need to determine if it can be fixed. Personally, I would not buy it if there is anything I did not feel I could correct and rely on. Let us know what you end up with and how much. :D :D |

I intended to do that. that wasn't my question. It was what is the price range the blcoks and crnaks generally go for. I'm not familiar with side oilers so I wnat to do my homework before talking to the seller. thanks for the quick response |
I think it depends on what you want. A lot of people doing ford restorations would consider that a great find. ($2000 to $3000) or more but if it is for a cobra I wouldn't pay that much because I would buy a Genesis or Shelby Block for that price. Well not for that price but after you have the old block worked over, you could just about get one of the new 427 block. I wouldn't pay more than $1500, maybe 2 grand if it looked really good. Remember, .030 overbore is really the last chance on a 427 block. You probably don't want to go further than that. A lot of people will try to get it cleaned up with a .017 bore first. That would be fine with me.

Marine blocks
SteveD , I was looking last year for a 427 Side Oiler and a number of them where around 1200 to 1500 . But a number of them where Marine Blocks and where not drilled out to be side oilers . They have the look on the side of the block to be side oilers . Not to say there are bad but you can pick them up for less :800 or so: at Marina salvage lots .

Check it is indeed a crossbolted, side oiled block, screw in frost plugs that has a bore in the range Dean said. If it looks good the package would be a score in the 1500-2K range. A steel crank sold on e-bay this week for $300 I'm guessing that's a cast one with it but look for the detail stuff like that.

I'm keeping one eye peeled for a 427 block myself. Center or side oiler, either one would work. I'd like to build a second engine for "stand by" so I can get a little deeper in the throttle with my present one. :)
