Anyone still like cam Gear Drives ?

It seems like I never hear about cam gear drives today. They were very popular many years ago, and not just for all out racing applications. Remember the,.... "Pro-Street" days.

We of course use them for our sprint car motors, but don't hear much for street use.

Anyone still like them ?

Unless your planning on very high RPM's don't bother, chain drives have worked just fine in millions of engines.

The gear drives require more lubrication than chains so you could be looking at block mods. In theory you'd think they'd be better but I've heard of more than a few failures over the years. Valve timing would be better at 8,000 rpm with a gear drive though. The main failures seem to be the carrier for the idler gears coming apart.

Puts me in mind of throwout bearings that ride the fingers of the clutch.

The only good ones cost a ton.....and then there is that Harry High School noise!

Yeah, back in the day some liked that CHEAP ass sound of a blower.
Everyone in high school just had to have them.

I use a single idler Milodon on my 427SOHC. No gear noise and perfect ignition timing.
