Car was at 210 when we shut it off last night. He just cranked it a dozen times, pulled all 8 plugs and no sign of moisture.

If it was me, I would just jump to a head gasket replacement (both of them).

Well, I thought about it last night. He obviously broke something else besides his bypass hose. I don't see how it would be his radiator, pump, or anything else since the pressure was immediately down and the fans were still blowing. I guess it could happen, but it seems unlikely. The only thing left are the gaskets and, in the worst case, warping the aluminum.

....which is why I came here to you experts before we started tearing into the engine.

Pressurize the cooling system to about 12 lbs. then stick a rubber tube in each spark plug hole and the other end in your ear (and tell everyone to be quiet). If you get lucky, you'll hear something.

ermariachi,
its the head gasket. period. Everything beeing the same, it can not be anything else that is made out of metal.
I had to replaced an lmost new felpro headgasket because cooling liquid was oozing out of the head bolts. It was brand new and had not been abused.
After having replaced so many felpro head gaskets I decided to give the SCE Copper headgasket a try, with the silicon beads around the water passages and oil holes, which is the weak point.
I also had the head shaved to have them absolutely flat.
I have driven the cobra after that very, very hard and no issues with oil or water leaks like before.

I too am sure it is the head gasket but for a quick fix the Aluminium bars stop leak works great. I have been told that many new engines get this during assembly. Fel Pro quality is not what it once was. George Anderson (Gessford Machine and Mechanic of the year) likes Victor gaskets but they are very hard to find (at least around here).

Head gaskets on this car are Cometic. We will likely try the Alumaseal last.

You might want to make sure that "new" thermostat opens fully and at the right temperature.
