If you came accross a Tunnel Port 427 would you convert it?
Would you replace the intake & heads for Aluminum to save weight or do the tunnel ports give you that much more performance. How streetable are the tunnel ports? They are pretty sharp & I understand that most of their power comes at higher RPM's but what do you lose in streetabilty?
Thanks for the input Ed |
1. No
2. Streetable 3.None wt |
I have them!
I have a TP set up on my car. I love it! I have the dual quad intake and still have a little fine tuning to do but I wouldn't change it for anything. The only thing you will need to do is sleeve the valve guides. The TP's have larger valve guides for the valves to expand when they get hot. The motor was used for nascar and was run at high temps and rpm's. You will need to close down the valve guides for street use or you'll have some ugly and fast wear on those valves and also decreased performance over time. Pick up Steve Christ book about BB Fords, I think he has a couple of points on the TP.
