Motor/Bellhousing/Transmission weight

What does an aluminum block 427 with aluminum heads, clutch and bell housing, with Tremec 5 speed transmission weigh ready to drop into the car?

I want to extend my engine lift by 18" and need to check bending loads so nothing breaks...

Gonna be pretty close to 700 lbs....

Block weight: 120pds
Trans weight: 75 pds
Head each weight: 28pds
Bellhousing average weight: 24 pds
Clutch weight: 24 pds
Total engine weight: 600pds
These are estimates without fluids, got all the info by GOOGLE, works everytime!

If you're trying to drop the engine, etc. in from the front, an engine lift will easily reach if you remove one of the front wheels and position the engine lift at the side.

A Tremec TKO weighs a tad over 100 lbs. A Quicktime bellhousing is the only one that's that light. If it's a Lakewood, you can double that weight.

You also have to remember the 70-80 lb crankshaft, rods, pistons, cam, etc. All of that adds weight in a hurry.

I'd say Barry's 700 lbs is going to be close if not on the low side.

I agree with Rodger....I've put FE/TKO combos in Cobras without having to do any engine hoist modification. It will go, no problem.

Tremcec t-5 trans weight: 75 pds. TKO 5 speed is 105 pds

I will set up from the side. No hoist mods should be safer. Just not as convenient. Thanks!
