Scorpion short travel hydraulic roller lifters
Does anyone have any experience with these? Seem to be made in the US.

Their rocker arms are decent, but I've never tried their lifters. I like to use Morel for the hydraulic stuff.

Hi Brent.
Just curious, really. I put Crane in my motor, and when they were reorganizing and not available (they are back, BTW), I was concerned about future sources of hydraulic roller lifters for the FE. Not a big fan of Comp.

There are several options out there now for the FE guys....it's a good thing.

Only a couple/three companies REALLY make hydraulic roller lifters for FEs. Neither of them had a production short travel FE specific part. Comp, Crane, and Lunati are not among them - they purchase these parts. I'd be willing to bet a couple sheckels that Scorpion ain't one of them either. If I get a sample or a really good image I can usually identify the supplier.

Anyone know anything about Howard Hydraulic Roller Lifters?

Did you end up buying a set, Dan? I know that Howards stuff is reboxed Morel stuff. John Morel's website even lists Howards as a distributor.
I've used those lifters in both FE's and BBC's....and none of them have come back. :) Of course how they perform has to do a lot with valvetrain weight and spring packages, but I've never had any trouble to 6000 and a little above.

Now you can:
About Us | Scorpion Performance
I have experience with their roller rocker arms. In five years of producing 30-40 engines a month, I think maybe 2 sets were sent back. I can't recall any returns of customer-damaged pieces.
US made, accurate ratios and pretty parts.

I had Scorpion lifters and rockers in my twin Mercury offshore boat engines. Stopanio built Blue Thunder race engines, which were best-in-class alongside Hawk and Mercury. They know a lot about HP engines (not the Cobra kind that cost $18k, but the marine kind that cost $50k) and their quality is excellent.

Now who around here would be dumb enough to spend that kind of money on stupid toys that break half the time anyway.

Scorpion has been an interesting company to watch. Their claims of market share and their marketing efforts are way beyond the apparent business volume. Huge displays at PRI and big advertising splashes speak of serious money in the background - yet comparatively few folks actively use the parts outside of the marine engine marketplace.
The rocker bodies extrusions are unique enough that you can readily see that they are not the private label suppliers to the large repackagers. They look like good quality products, but the folk at Jesel and T&D would have a strong arguement as to relative superiority in design and quality.
An older Edgar report gives a bit of insight...

Blykins, I did buy a set of Howard's. First set I got were badly rusted. Had to get a second set. These are great. I'm going to use them as soon as it cools off enough to get into the garage. I'll keep you posted.

Morel is a customer of mine. They make a lot more brands than you think. Many are made to customer specifications, which may or may not be a good thing.

Not that there's anything wrong with my Crane lifters, but I do have my intake off so it would be a good time to trial the Scorpions. Does anyone want to buy me a set?;)

Ask Scorpion if they want to buy you a set to try.
We use the Morel ost of the time unless the customer just wants another brand. We make a note of this if they are somehting that we do not normally use. When you use as many parts as we do you can get a bad one from anyone. We can normally find this on the Dyno when we run the engine or prime it.
I have not used the Scorpion lifters but have used many sets of their roller rockers on our small block builds and have had pretty much zero problems with them. Like mentioned before Morel makes lifters for several companies. I know this is the case with some other companies as well.
If Scorpion gives you some lifters let us know how they work for you. I normally have to buy the parts and then find out how they work by testing them before we will use in cusotmers engines. We have helped redesign many parts for the Ford engines to get them right. this is a part of our business that most epople do not see or understand.
Good luck, Keith Craft
