Windage Tray with Canton Road Race Pan?
I'm building a 427 SO for my cobra and just received the Canton Road Race oil pan I'm going to use. I also have a Ford Racing windage tray, that looks like it will fit okay with the Canton. Should I use it? Or should I get one from canton that is made with screens instead of solid steel? Or none at all?
Thanks for your opinions, Chuck Brandt |
Canton pan and windage tray
I would go ahead and use the set up you have. I have a Canton T-Pan and a standard ford windage tray on my engine and it works great. I don't see any problem with that set up.
Good luck. |
Chuck,
If you use main studs, you'll have to clearance the tray a bit around the back two studs. The double gaskets and tray should allow the pan to clear fine. Good luck, |
I decided to get the canton one
I got this one from Canton, it has a little more clearance around the pickup tube and, to me, it looks like drainback would be better. Thanks for the advice anyway.

dipstick notch
Chuck,
I have a Canton pan and standard windage tray. We enlarged the notch for the dipstick on the windage tray, since the dipstick tended to catch on more than one occasion and ride up the top of the tray--giving a very low oil reading!!! Southern Automotive does this now to all their trays. Hopefully I got you this tip in time. Cheers |
Thanks, I'll definitely check that!
