Motorcraft TA-31 Sealant
I have to replace my intake gasket, and have seen the Motorcraft TA-31 Silicone Sealant recommended for this procedure in numerous threads. I have tried all of my local parts stores with no luck. They claim it is a Ford product, and therefore they do not sell it. Any idea where I can find this product?

$20 and a caulk gun? What's the problem with using Permatex for a fraction of the price?

Use Permatex Hylomar $9.95 for a tube. Use it around the ports and "The Right Stuff" for the front and rear seal inplace of the rubber seals.

Its not a problem. Its just that the TA-31 works a lot better.
Every Ford dealer should have it in stock - I buy it by the case.
When you consider how much you get its actually cheaper than buying those little tubes - the stuff keeps for a very long time if you reseal the open tube end.

Look for Aftermarket Motorcraft Distributor
Archrms,
I work for an Motorcraft Distributor and I sell it to all of my local Ford Dealers. It looks like P&G auto is the local Motorcraft distributor. They Supply alot of Hard parts to the Ford dealers. You should pay alot less there

I would recommend Hylomar as well. Have used it in many different applications, and it's never failed me yet.
And you might want to compare the Permatex Hi-temp silicone product with the "Right Stuff" for the end sealing duties. It's pretty tough.

I use TA-31 for all my sealing, with one important exception. The TA-31 is more durable than any permatex, IMHO. It's also easy to work with. It spreads very nicely. It's much easier to remove than the Right Stuff. If you've pulled your intake as many times as I have, that's important. The exception I referred to is the intake front and rear ends. My experience with my victor intake, which has especially large gaps, was that the Right Stuff was superior.

Hylomar is not like any other Permatex product. Actually it is just sold by Permatex under license in the USA. It was originally developed by Rolls-Royce Aerospace Division for sealing joints in jet turbine engines. . It holds up very well in sealing against oils, all types of fuel, hydraulic fluid, and, coolants. It never dries out.
But it's definitely not useful for sealing up the end gaps.

Please elaborate why its not suitable for this, too much build required?
Thanks.

exactly. Hylomar is great for small metal to metal gap sealing or to help supplement a gasket to seal, but the "right stuff" product or permatex hi-temp silicone sealer (my favorite silicone sealant) will bead up to the height needed, whereas Hylomar won't.
