482 on run stand video
Finally have my 482 running pretty well. Just need a car to put it in now.
The sound quality in the video doesn't do it justice. Sounds nasty in real life. The details in brief: Pond block, Scat crank and rods, diamond pistons, Edelbrock Stage II heads, 10.5:1 compression, Comp roller cam 248/252 .633 lift, Victor intake, FAST 2.0 EFI, FAST dual sync distributor (running fully sequential), MSD spark box. Thanks to everyone who helped me over the last few years. You know who you are. phil 482 c.i. aluminum FE on run stand - YouTube |
Sounds awesome, I like that its feul injected.

Yeah, purists may not agree, but FI is pretty cool. Up here in Connecticut, I got 4 inches of snow yesterday (!), and it was 34 degrees in my garage when I filmed this. Started it right up and WALKED AWAY while it was warming up. Do that with a carb !

Your motor sounds really good. Mine is a 496 aluminum Pond with stage III aluminum heads and Comp solid roller, 10:7 so very close to yours so here is what it would sound like with some big 3 1/2 ID side pipes in a Cobra...

Didn't mean to be sneaky...it was up to temp when I fired it up for the video. Nonetheless, the EFI got it up to temp with minimal drama and no fiddling with the throttle during the warm-up.
As for the cost, ummm, well...let's just say there is no comparison:rolleyes: Actually before I went with the FAST system, which BTW has been an absolute pleasure, I had another port system that should have been plug-n-play. Over the course of a year, I got to the point that I really wanted to smash it with a sledge hammer, light in on fire and then urinate on it to put it out. I'm sure it's an excellent system, and many others have used it with great success, but alas not me. I don't want this thread to turn into a discussion of that company, but if you're curious I'm sure you could do a search for my past threads...or you could look in my gallery. A sharp eye could figure it out. |

Well alright then. Roughly, let's say you use a Edelbrock dual plane intake and a top of the line, custom built Quick-Fuel carb...The intake doesn't need to be ported and performs well out of the box. I'm guessing roughly 1K, give or take $100.
For my setup, the intake was $650...a total ripoff, considering the non-efi version of the Victor is half that. An enterprising person could weld their own injector bungs, but let's assume $650 for the intake. The Victor HAS to be port matched. I had my intake matched and ported by a well-know FE porter. That ran another $200+. The FAST 2.0 system with computer and wiring harness, and sensors, roughly $2K. A throttle body, about $500. Fuel rails and injectors $600. That doesn't include the distributor, which is special for sequential operation. So, absolutely no comparison. Worth it? Probably not, unless you're a gearhead/computer geek with more money than brains. Like me. phil |
Thanks for the information.
