Oil Leaking out TKO600 tail shaft

I removed the motor and TKO600 transmission this morning, tilting the motor/transmission up at about 45* to get it out. Oil poured out the transmission tail shaft. I assumed there was a rear seal, but evidently when the drive shaft is removed there is nothing to keep the oil in the transmission.

When the motor/transmission is removed, is the transmission oil to be drained first? Or is there something else that can be done to keep the transmission oil from leaking all over the place?

Couple of ways to do it. Plastic bag and tight rubber bands or and old companion shaft part that slips on the splines and acts like an installed drive line. If you are going to install them together do one of the above or drain the tranny oil.

I use a tail shaft plug.
