Installing an FE....some suggestions.......
Well it took me, and 2 other mates, 3 attempts to get the 428/toploader settled into the crendon chassis (frame). And heres what I learnt:
In a 428 block there are 4 holes in the block to take the chassis mounts. the rubber chassis mounts use 3 of 'em. This means, if you havent seen a pic or noone told you, then its quite possible to fit the engine mounts upside down and transposed left to right.:CRY::CRY::CRY::CRY: This also means that if someone asks you to measure the distance from stud to front of block to check they re on OK and not upside down, then you give your friend the correct measurement - 2 wrongs making a right. And this also means you wll NEVER get the damned studs to line up with the holes in the frame. You can get close, very close... but no cigar. The angle of attack on the stud is wrong. And when you swap them round and get it right, the whole thing slides in like a knife through butter. Easy. - I also discovered that pulling and shoving on an incorreclty setup FE/toploader combo really hurts the next day. Im not as fit as I was %/ Do please make sure you get them set up RIGHT first time. |
Yep, I seem to have gone down that path about 8 years ago. But, when it is right it really does goe well.
