Nice day at the Dyno
Had a nice day at the Dyno. 480 hp, 497 #tq, 12 pulls and never leaked a drop. Now it's Shiner time! :D
Crank up the sound! ;) Steve's 462" FE on the Dyno 2 - YouTube http://www.clubcobra.com/photopost/d...50-46_591a.jpg http://www.clubcobra.com/photopost/d.../IMG_1689a.JPG http://www.clubcobra.com/photopost/d.../IMG_1699a.JPG http://www.clubcobra.com/photopost/d.../IMG_1702a.JPG http://www.clubcobra.com/photopost/data/500/shiner8.JPG |
Nice! Sounds very nice.
I'm a little surprised that a 462 "only" pulled 480hp... especially at the crank, shouldn't it be more? I'm just referencing this to our 454 that did 550. I would have thought more cid would produce more. But I don't know much! :) |
Thats about where I ended up with my mild 459 ci build with old HP, 9.1 CR iron heads. I had a couple less HP (my early HP, ported, polished heads can't match modern alum heads) and a little more torque (probably due to my LR dual quad intake). Where was your peak HP? Mine was around 5400 rpm. Should be a nice driving motor.

We've had a good discusion about the power that we got out of her over on the FE forum and the general consensus is that I'm losing 20-30 HP with my PI intake.
332-428 Ford FE Engine Forum: 462 FE on the Dyno yesterday I guess an intake designed in the 60s to work on an iron headed 428 with flat tappet is running out of steam with a 462 with ebock heads and roller cam. My power peak came at 5700rpm and even with my 1025 Demon it was still pulling over an inch of vacuum there at WOT. |

Have the intake ported
lovehamr Joe Craine does intake porting on all manifolds. There is a 10-35 cfm differents between ports and thinning the center for better flow to the ports. Takes about 1 week to do. The intake come back looking like jewels. The flow to each cylinder with be within 5-7cfm. It does make a differents in how the motor runs. Give him a call, I bet he finds those missing 21 HP for the 500HP number. Rick L.

Rick, Joe actually commented in the thread over on the FE forum and basically suggested an RPM. I do think I'd rather have this ported than go to a non-period correct looking single plane though.
