410 FE worth getting?
So I am at the local salvage yard yesterday to pick up some old lawn mowers for my Auto 1 students and I see an old mercury sitting there. I ask to look at it and popped the hood and saw an FE but wasn't sure what it was until I found the air cleaner inside the car. It said 410 4v so I did a little search and found that it was a 66 maurauder park lane and I am curious if this motor is worth pursuing. I know it is a 390 bore with a 428 crank and is externally balanced. I have a 427 in my car now but is this motor worth getting and rebuilding for a spare?

Any FE is worth the money
Tony if the motor is cheap and looks like no cracks in the block or heads, buy it. Wouldn't spend more than $500.00. It's always nice to have a spare bullet and a winter project to have. Sent block and heads out for basic machine work and get a stroker kit of a 4.25" and you have a torque monster 445. You have read the write up about building these motor and getting 500/500 out of them with little work. Just a thought. I have a 410 also in my shed that was to be a 428. You can always sell it to get your money back. Rick

I would jump on it or a 406 if it was available. Pretty good ole motors.

get all the ancillary pieces, they could be worth more than the block.

Good 428 crank is worth a couple - few hundred all by itself...

The "Mercury" valve covers are cool. This was only used for a couple of years in full size Mercurys.
