Swapping Roush 427W for KC/Pond 482

Want to pull my Roush 427RS/TW and replace it with a Keith Craft 482 with Pond block. One of the things I was asked was would my SPF designed to accept a BB FE. Talked to SPF they said no problem. Know I have to change headers, motor mounts and probably lower radiator hose. Are the any more potential problems or concerns I need to address when I go to do this. They are telling me approx 6 weeks for engine delivery. Plan on installing a McCloud dual disc and pressure plate in the process. What would be a good bell housing to go to. Would appreciate any other input. Will be ensuring my medical insurance is up to date, think it will probably be a beast. Looking at about 650 tq and about the same in HP

Thanks in advance
Benny

What transmission are you using? I would suggest you talk to Keith about the bellhousing, but he will probably recommend a Quicktime. He prefers them by a great deal to Lakewood. The Quicktime is what he recommended for me with my Richmond Gear and I've been very pleased with it. It lined up perfectly and there was no need to adjust the centering at all which, from what I've read, is very rare with a Lakewood.

Tremec 600, he did talk about the bell housing, but did not give a recommendation. Your suggestion sounds good to me

Anything else??

Wow, that engine sounds like a beast.

What prompted the move to a bigger mill? Getting bored with breaking the rears loose in third? Trying for fifth?

Just cannot leave well enough alone. Besides I'm afraid that sooner or later I will end up going through the same thing you have. The engine has been great up to this point, runs strong. I swore after supercharging my Vette, that would be it for Road Monsters, I never learn!!!!!

How's your Cobra running??

Benny you will need the upper radiator hose as well and will want a surge tank.

Let me know if you want an extra pair of hands for the swap.

With the bellhousing, you don't have much of a choice.....they don't make Lakewood bells anymore. Either way, I'd much rather have the lighter, smaller Quicktime.

The McLeod RST twin disc is the best route to go here.

Well, since you asked, about 600 miles after the total rebuild, two Crower hydraulic roller lifters collapsed/froze up and needed to be replaced.

Runs like a raped ape now! Can't imagine having another hundred lb/ft of torque. I already have to fill the trunk with illegal aliens in order to keep the rear tires from shredding themselves.

Scott love to have you there. Would really like to get my engine our, and most of the work on getting the other one in, during a day if possible.

Thanks for saving the research time, any other suggestions

I have a set of Superformance "FE" headers in stock with the silver ceramic coating if you are interested.

+2 on the Quicktime bell......almost always they dial in within tolerence, something that was rarely ever said about the Lakewoods!

The radiator hoses and the "FE" engine pedistals along with the headers are the only really big things you need to make the swap.

Oh, and I have the"FE" pedistals as well!

Watcha doing with the Windsor? :D

I'd use a Quick Time. Engine mounts will be a concern. You don't want the oil pan to be lower than the frame. Also, total engine height of the motor might be a problem if using an air gap intake. The engine will torque alot under load. so seriously think about a cable throttle instead of solid linkage. Less change of binding. Also, your front to weight ratio will change, because of the added weight on front end. You will find that 3.73's will make first gear a tire burner. Seventeen inch wheels with 315 35 17 tires by Nitto NT555 is a good summer tire. Tread depth is 10/32 versis the NT555R which has 6/32 tread depth. Also the R series is a softer compound than the 555's.

Sorry for the long post. I looked for a wee bit of time to find a good set up for my big block flat track engine.

No need to apologize, this is the type of info I'm looking for. I got 18" rims with 335's on the rear.

Couple of local guys have expressed in interest, but nothing solid.
The engine had 8k on it when I got it, now has 15k, so I can only testify to the miles I put on it. Some have been during about 5 canyon runs. Not a lot or rev time about 5k. Very light oil consumption. I had the valves replaced at about 12 k due to what I thought were the valve guides leaking. Come to find out the valve stems were worn at the valve guide wearing points, allowing oil by. Had ferira (sp) larger valves installed, and some porting behind the intake valves done, then installed a Pro Fuel 850. Engine has the twisted wedge cam, and Roush's Dyno sheet showed 515 hp and 535 tq when it was delivered. It will probable be around 525 to hp and 550 tq now. Engine does run stronger. Has Roush valve covers and air cleaner, polished intake manifold, appears like most of the other Roush Engines on Cobra Country that has been pictured. Got no compliants about the engine, nice hit at idle, and runs good. But it's not a 482 BB. If you are interested let me know. I have no idea what the engine is worth. I'm in San Diego
