Mallory advance springs for FE
My 390 with 428 crank has a Mallory distributor #2555301. Mechanical advance only, YL series advance plate. Pertronix kit replaced the points. Someone before me bastardized the springs so the advance does not snap back fully retarded at engine shut off. :mad: This is causing my hot hard start problem. What color springs make a good curve for this engine?? I just ordered from Jegs the Mallory advance curve change kit #29015. Any Mallory fans out there?

Sorry this is sketchy but here goes.
In my Unilite, I ran 24 initial, 38 total in by 2600. Very snappy. I know I ran one purple spring but can't remember the other. I'd guess it was the natural steel spring. You can try those springs then test with timing light and run up to 3000 to see where it stops. If you have a compression lower than 10.5, use less initial. Best I can do... |
