Do you know the manf. of the lifter? We just had an axle break on one of our customer's 482 FE.

Boy that looks nasty, mine just pushed the roller up into the lifter body it was all those sharp little needle bearings and axle parts that did the damage.
The pieces did $1100 damage to the dry sump pump alone and tore up two piston skirts and wiped one cam lobe. I had a Mobile 1 filter and the mains and rods could probably be used again so the filter did it's job.
Mine was a Comp, they have upgraded material since then but in fairness I ran the crap out of that engine for 6 years, long after Kinetics told me to change springs and lifters. The best lifters are the oversize NASCAR truck design but might be a bit pricy for most because they need a lifter bore job too. They are rebuildable so you don't have to buy new ones after so many engine hours. I agree with the CC engine builders that have advised not to use a mechanical roller on the street, it would be hydraulic to avoid the pitfalls of solid rollers. Anything over 600 HP (a real 600 that is) on street tires of any size is virtually undrivable anyway, but to each his own.

Racing is expensive, way over my retirement check. When I used to spend My summers in central utah I used to work in the shop at night when it was cooler, My closest neighbors were 1/4 mile away. Mabe it's time to add some foil heat barrier, insulation, and sheet rock the garage. I used to run an attic fan in Calif at night to cool things off. We took back the farm when no one wanted to lease it at a fair price. This year we have got two bumper crops of hay and the price is up this year and should get one more in oct. I used to out work the grand kids but now when they get tired I decided it was time for me to stop too. All the car projects are on hold. I work on the new retirement home in beteween farming. When the house is done the wife wants me to finish the Model A roadster.
