A little help identifying this intake
5 Attachment(s)
Hi all,
A few weeks ago I came across a police interceptor intake manifold for a big block mustang I am building. After looking at it more closely it's not a PI manifold and I'm not sure what it is. Some searching on the net has me thinking it might be something to do with the early cobras, so here I am looking for some expert help. No casting numbers except the FoMoCo logo and the firing order markings. I’m not sure if it’s aluminum or magnesium. It weighs 26 lbs. It would be interesting to find out what an aluminum PI intake weighs as a comparison. It's missing bosses on the #8 runner, no PCV port on the carb base. It appears it was chromed at some point in its life. The wierd shiny spots you see are residual chrome or nickel that needs to be stripped. Take a look at this article in Modified Mustangs: Ford 427 FE Build - Fe = Real Iron, Part 2 - Modified Mustangs & Fords Magazine The intake they are using is identical to the one I have so can anyone confirm what is stated in the article about the intake being an early cobra? Thanks in advance for any insite you can give me. |
I don't.think it aluminum or.magnesium at 26 pounds. Mine is aluminum and weighs 14 pounds. With out casting numbers and I notice there is an oil port a:bove the number one port and a breather port in the back. While the configuration is similar to a sidewinder intake there are some marked differences. Its really had to.nail.down.
