remote oil filter line sizes
ok so i'm refreshing the 427 i have in my car and its working on the oil filter remote adapter. i'll post some pics later but, its a block that takes two fittings. in the past it had one 90 degree 1/2-14 pipe to AN-10 or 12 and the same but straight on the other.
the issue has been the large nuts that go on them with the braided line makes it impossible to tighten with the motor in the car, so i want to change it. the ID of the fittings is around .600, i have been shopping for other fittings and can easily get 1/2-14 to compression in 90 degree and straight with much more clearance because they are thinner....they handle way more pressure than needed and are brass instead of the Russel aluminum that is there now. but they are .406 ID.. now the holes in the block are around .437 going to the oil pump so....i do not see a issue with the smaller ID of the brass. nor do i see an issue using hard lines with Y-loc ends on the fittings. what do you guys use and feel free to blow holes in my thought process the distance i am going to the filter is about 12 inches..... |
All the multiple fittings when stacked together tend to create flow restrictions where they join due to differing sizes of bores and passages. Although they are fairly pricy the fittings that use a formed tube are a better deal than a forged 90 degree adapter and a hose end. If you have room, use them you will enhace oil flow and eliminate pressure drop. Check out the Earl's Plumbing line. For an FE suggest size 12. Or go to an Aeroquip dealer and get the hose ends crimped on, then they are more compact than reusable ends.

yes that is what i have now, crimped on hose ends on braided lines......the adapter is such that the two lines are so close together coupled with the frame in the way...i can't get a wrench on them.
i also am not a big fan of aluminum fittings....may be unwarranted |
