New Head Manufacture

I was talking to a rep at Pro Maxx Performance Saturday. He asked if I had any questions. I said," yeah I don't see any big block Ford heads?" He said they are right now testing a medium rise FE set. Thought I pass it a long. I didn't ask much more, was in a hurry at the time.

Heaps of heads on offer atm... BT, Pond, Barry's survival heads, Edelbrocks... etc, etc...
Why would you need go past any of the above?

Robert Pond uses his own heads and wins plenty of national competitions.

why not?

ford chev dodge....why do you need all the rest?

I was not shopping Pro Maxx. I was at the Atlanta Motorama, walking through the vendor booths. As far as why? Maybe they're looking to keep expanding the line. To be viewed as a complete supplier offering as much as the other big suppliers. Who knows they may shelve it. What I remember being said, they are being tested on the street.

By the way, from what I've heard. The show was such a success. Summit Racing blocked in dates for next year before the event was over.

Hmm... Sorry, I'm not sure I understand where you are coming from

I'll preface this by sayin' I'm no expert on FE heads, so please help me out here.

BUT, generally speaking my humble research, has lead me to these "broad based" conclusions:
  • If I was looking at a strictly race thing I'd probably select BTs
  • If I was looking for a fence sitter ie: street/strip I'd probably select Ponds
  • If I was looking for street thing I'd probably select the Survival heads or Edelbrocks

However, I'm happy to hear your thoughts.

PS: I don't think we need dodge or chevy :p

A pretty good assessment. But Barry can also make you a vicious BT race head. His were Engine Masters killers. Keith could too.

my only point was the more choices the better it will be for the consumer. more competition. different configurations offer a wider range of possibilities.

i believe the new heads are cast in a foreign land by a very large casting house. there were more details on a couple other Ford sites.
the castings appear to be very high quality

Sorry, I only have rumours... and no info.

It would be nice if someone would make a modern head and manifold design that got rid of all the built in FE compromises. The FE could then make some serious naturally aspirated power. Unfortunately the market would not justify the expense of designing and tooling an all new head and manifold.

Some information re: the next FE head and block offering.
