Build or sell?
I have a 427 engine machined and ready to be put together, but it is missing a cam. I am not sure if I should build this engine or sell it. I am getting old, and since I have a complete 428cj and a 428scj I don't know if I will be able to use the 427 before I leave this earth.
I know it would be great to buy a Cobra kit and put the 427 in it. |
Sell. Don't fall down the rabbit hole.

Depends on your situation.
Do you enjoy building stuff? What else are you going to do with your time? If you'd rather build a (fill in the blank) than whatever else you are doing, then build it. If you'd rather not, then sell it. |
Define "old", maybe building engines keeps you young!!!

70+,,,, pictures to follow after moderator reviews them. I drag race a 1960 Falcon that runs quicker than this old man wants to go with a 850hp 434ci FE. "with nitrous".
427 and 428scj are extra engines. I have been building FE's since the mid 60's. I have a 200 mph supercharged Corvette now, but would rather have a Cobra. |

Hi Lloyd~! Hope you have been well. Good to hear the Falcon is still tearing up the strip. As I remember you have some nice engines and parts. Never too late to make that Cobra dream happen. All the best, Glenn.

You said it.."but would rather have a Cobra". Do it!

You are kidding??
Maxtor Max first off, age is just how long you have been on this earth. Last thing, I hear and see is that 70's are the new 55-60's. If your heath is good, you have your answer. Keep body and brain working. A little slower for speed but staying sharp is very important. Glass of wine in the evening doesn't hurt either.
As far a motors, is this 427 a SO or center oiler?? Is there a money limit?? You already have the skill on building. 427SO motor would get built to blue print spec's and sold. 427 centeroiler would get a Bylkins stroker kit with 4.25 bore and installed in a cobra kit, if the walls are thick enough or even could be sleaved. Gald you final showed up on this forumn and nice to see another FE builder. LIke to see some pictures of your work when you have time here. 427SO is worth alot to a cobra builder looking for the right motor. Shelby or Kirkham would pay good money for the correct matching numbers motor if it's a 65 to 67 motor. Center oiler will not bring as much money, adding SO center caps and drilling out the block would help increase worth but without that galley on the side, it's still a plain Jane. Go to EBAY or Craigslist and look for unfinished cobra kits to build. Good paint job would be in the 3-5G numbers with all the body work on the fiberglass. Most kits come wired and plumbed in for brakes and motors. Time to get back to work. How about some of your motor buildups here for others to read about. Gald you came out of the shadows. I am sure you can help others here with a FE buildup. The info you have is priceless. Looking forward to picking your brain for new and tested ideas you may have tryed. Rick L. student of FE motors. Ps if you install that 434 in a cobra, a 3 or 4 link rearend suspension would be needed. 1/4 mile times in the 9.3-9.6 seconds. 60 feet tells it all. Have a good day. |
