Interesting story. Also, Chrysler was hot on the heals of Ford with a DOHC Hemi. When Nascar banned the SOHC, Chrysler dropped the DOHC. There were 2 of them built, but never run as they had issues yet to be resolved when the plug was pulled.

If you're interested in Ford Racing you should read Ford, the Dust and the Glory: A Racing History, 1901-1967 . It covers the whole saga of the cammer in great detail including all of the politics involved. Good chapters on Shelby / Miles and the GT40. It also has the real story of Enzo and Henry II.
