BBM FE blocks and heads
I hadn't heard of this company but came across the website today. Looks like their castings are nice. At any rate, it's good to see more companies selling FE parts.

I've had a couple sets of heads here....haven't ran them on an engine yet but finish is top notch and flow numbers are most excellent for an out of the box head....and even better with some porting.

Whose block do you think is the best deal? Or maybe whose is the cheapest for you to build into a nice street engine? John |
I haven't handled a bbm block yet, but IMO you can't beat a pond aluminum or cast iron block.

The BBM, and Shelby stuff might be great, and may prove in time to be excellent products, but for mine: Its hard to go past the Pond stuff...
I just think to myself this Robert Pond bloke has tried, tested, thrashed, and abused his products at a NHRA level (among others) with great success... Just sayin' most any engine built for the street/strip (as most of our toys are) will NEVER experience that kind of torture, so how could one go past it? :confused: Either way good time for FEs, plenty of options. Lippy - how's that beast of yours going? How much,( Time and Money) is needed to machine/finish off a Pond Block, I've heard it's not cheap, and the BBM block is basically ready to run, just mess with the lifter bores.

No block comes ready to roll. They all need bored or at least honed if the desired bore size is close to how they come, line honed, square decked, sleeves set if aluminum block, lifter bores finished, etc.
As Barry said, all blocks need pretty much the full line of machine work, and even if it were done, an "assembly line" machine work job probably wouldn't be up to snuff to most of us builders. |
