valve train noise
I bought a pond aluminum 482 with hydraulic roller 248/252 635 lift and had enough valve train noise to double check the camcard for hydraulic on it. My other engine is flat tappit hydraulic at 610 lift and seemed much quieter? Qlso is a ultra hp 750 big enough? My 470 came with a BG modified 950cfm holley. Thanks

Depends on the lobes that were used. If you use some aggressive lobes, they will sound like a sewing machine.
That's all said with the thinking that your valves are adjusted correctly and there are no other engine issues.

My engine is a 385 (460 CI), not an FE, but it had a noisy valve train when I took delivery in July. It didn't take me too long to discover it was set up like a mechanical cam with valve lash. It's much quieter and runs much better now that the valves have been properly adjusted to pre-load the hydraulic lifters.

My flat tappet hydraulic cam in my 459 seems to have a lot of valve train noise too. The pre-load has been very carefully adjusted so I'm beginning to assume it may be the cam ramps or the Ford rockers/shaft are generating a little noise. Pretty sure it wouldn't have been an acceptable level of noise in a LTD or Thunderbird originally.

Just pull the valve covers and reset all the valves, hydraulic valves are easy.

Old holley 950 or newer 750 ultra hp for a 482?
